Finding a second job can be all but impossible when you consider the busy schedules many people balance on a daily basis. A local company may have the perfect solution for anyone looking to earn an extra paycheck.
Angie Kistaitis' life changed two years ago. "I was gonna be a first-time homeowner and needed something to supplement my income a little bit."
To supplement that income, Angie initially thought about what's been a safety net for many looking for a second job, the retail industry. But it wasn't a perfect fit because any schedule would conflict with her full-time position.
“A friend told me about this work-at-home-type-job and I looked into it and started the process."
Angie is one of 14,000 at-home customer service agents nationwide, working for West Corporation of Omaha. "They connect in through the Internet to our systems,” says West Corporation president Skip Hanson. “It's a secure system so it protects our client. It protects our home workers as well."
The agents do the same job duties as employees at a West Corporation call center in Omaha. They mainly process applications or complaints filed by customers of Fortune 50 companies. They earn between $8 and $12 an hour, trading in the traditional office cubicle and hours for convenience.
"They don't have to drive in, they don't have to get new clothes for the dress code," says Hanson.
"I think that this is just the best opportunity for anyone, whether you're a mother whose kids are in school and you want to do something else from home to kind of pass the day or whatever," says Angie.
